The aviation industry is well known for its use of specific terminology, and one such term we often come across is the take-off roll. In its Airplane Flying Handbook, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) defines the take-off roll (or ground roll) as “the portion of the take-off procedure during which the airplane is accelerated from a standstill to an airspeed that provides sufficient lift for it to become airborne.”
