Melbourne Airport has been waiting for the federal government to sign off on its third runway project, with the transport minister accused of sitting on the decision for 18 months.
The facility, funded by $8 million in Victorian government investment, will operate 24/7 and be able to handle 100,000 tonnes of freight per year, compared to the 10,000 tonnes of freight processed at Avalon’s existing facilities in 2023.
The apparent boardroom coup comes weeks after Lim Kim Hai stepped back from his role and long-serving leaders John Sharp and chief operating officer Neville Howell were promoted.
