Boeing announced on August 1, 2024, that the US Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC) has awarded Boeing a contract to supply another specialized MH-47G Block II Chinooks. While the Boeing Chinook first flew in 1961, it has been constantly evolved and updated. In April 2024, the newest variant, the CH-47F Block II, took its first test flight (it provides increased range and payload over earlier variants). Boeing also stated earlier this year that the new variant is almost ready for deliveries.
