With a rich history dating back to 1932, Air India is the national flag carrier of India and the country’s second-largest airline by passengers carried after low-cost airline IndiGo. The airline has its central hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi and its secondary hub at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) in Mumbai.

Heading into 2026, Air India continues to operate an incredibly diverse fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft with narrowbodies and widebodies from the European planemaker, and widebodies from the American planemaker. There are 187 aircraft in the mainline fleet with another 100-plus additional jets with regional subsidiary Air India Express. The mainline fleet has grown significantly since our last fleet video on Air India, largely thanks to the acquisition of Vistara and the absorption of its fleet into Air India’s operations.
