Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines have taken the next step in their proposed merger, with an application to the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) to apply for an interim exception from provision 49 USC allowing the airlines to operate under common ownership following Hawaiian Holdings’ acquisition by Alaska Air Group.
