Congestion clears on Melbourne’s train network after ‘major’ failure

Significant delays have cleared across Melbourne’s train network after an earlier signalling failure.

At about 5am, Metro Trains posted on X that a loss of signalling control had caused “major delays” across the rail network.

“All trains will remain at platforms until further notice,” the service wrote.

“Select services may terminate/originate at intermediate locations.”

The issue has since been resolved but knock-on effects remain in place.

People are urged to allow extra travel time, listen for announcements and check platform displays.
