The Lufthansa Group is introducing an environmental surcharge to all flights departing the European Union (EU), as well as the United Kingdom, Norway, and Switzerland, with the latter two being part of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). The airline group argued that it would be unable to bear the additional costs related to environmental concerns.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has certified a new A350-900 engine variant. The aircraft type, which exclusively uses the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84, now has an Enhanced Performance (EP) variant. Airbus states that this Enhanced Performance capability is set to deliver one percent lower fuel consumption, which will provide airlines with a reduction in operating costs and emissions.
