Hawaiian Airlines is donating hundreds of airplane life vests to help two entrepreneurs develop waterproof surf bags. Rather than throw away life vests that have reached their expiry date, the initiative will ensure the materials are put to good use.

While Boeing 747 aircraft in passenger service are somewhat few and far between these days, examples of the older 747-200 variant are even more so.One particularly interesting example active in recent years has been a testbed plane belonging to Rolls-Royce. The British engine manufacturer had a 45-year-old 747-200B on its books used to test turbofans on flights out of Tucson in Arizona.
