The Tawhai Tunnel on the Stillwater–Ngākawau Line partially collapsed on Saturday while crews were carrying out planned maintenance. The tunnel located near Reefton New Zealand, was being worked on by a workman on a digger who escaped without injury.
Trains were already suspended for the weekend whilst the works were being carried out.
Crews have left the tunnel since it collapsed and the tunnel remains closed.
