Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton has defeated Republican rival Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio, in what was one of the most bitter and controversial races of the election.
Ramaswamy, known as a tech bro who helped Elon Musk slash government spending in his DOGE project, ran an aggressive MAGA-style race, going as far as to recruit Acton’s estranged mother in a campaign ad.
Acton’s mother had lost custody of her children decades ago after her husband, their stepfather, was indicted for raping Acton as a child.

A swath of prominent Republicans spoke out against the ad, which was widely viewed as despicable.
In winning, Acton has flipped the state to Democratic Party control and become the first Democrat to win the office in 20 years.
