Dutch Container Merchants makes its debut at Intermodal Europe

For the first time, container trading and leasing company Dutch Container Merchants (DCM) will exhibit at Intermodal Europe 2026 with its own stand (D81). The Amsterdam-based family business is ready to meet the industry face to face and showcase its container offering
When Rogier Vervoort founded Dutch Container Merchants in 2019, he brought more than 30 years of experience to the industry. The ambition: to become the most reliable partner for businesses navigating international trade. Today, DCM offers container solutions across Europe, North America, South America and Asia.

The freedom of Shipper Owned Containers

At the core of DCM’s trading and leasing business are Shipper Owned Containers (S.O.C.). These offer more freedom than carrier-owned containers (C.O.C.), which shippers rent equipment from the shipping line. Leave equipment in port for too long or return it late, and demurrage and detention charges can cost companies hundreds of euros per day. With S.O.C., the container belongs to the shipper or is leased independently, so those carrier penalties don’t apply.

That freedom pays off. On one-way moves, there’s no costly return of an empty container. At the original destination, the container can be resold, reused for a new freight movement or used as storage.

In peak season, when carrier equipment is scarce or expensive, shippers with their own containers only need to book slot capacity on a vessel. And when freight continues a long journey inland, delays are frequent. S.O.C.s come with the advantage that carriers are not chasing the container back, so shippers can execute inland transport at their own pace.

DCM makes this model available at a large scale through trading, leasing and one-way services. New containers are produced under its own supervision in China and Vietnam and carefully selected used units are held to the same standards.

A year worth celebrating

The past year has been remarkable for DCM. The company added around 50 new sales and leasing locations to its network and nearly doubled its fleet, giving customers more choice and more places to pick up and drop off equipment. Exhibiting at Intermodal Europe felt like the natural next step for DCM.

Doing things differently

DCM likes to do things in its own way. The Amsterdam office has a unique industry workspace design, and the same thinking shaped its first stand. Visitors will find something a little different from the usual exhibition booth: a place that reflects the character of a tight-knit team of family and close friends, built for real conversations.

Whether you’re considering S.O.C. for the first time or looking to scale your container capacity, the DCM team will be happy to talk it through.
