For most travelers, the boarding gate is simply the final waiting area before a flight, where passengers check their phones, arrange their bags, and listen for announcements about boarding groups. However, for gate agents, the scene is much more complicated, because their responsibilities begin long before the first boarding pass is scanned. They must watch the developing crowd, answer questions, monitor flight information, and identify problems that could delay departure or create difficulties once passengers reach the aircraft.
