GreenSquare DC has officially brought 15 megawatts of capacity online for the inaugural stage of its SYD1 data centre in Western Sydney, fully leased to Nasdaq-listed neocloud Sharon AI.
Breathing New Life into Legacy Infrastructure
Located on a site originally opened in 1995 and formerly operated by IBM and its IT infrastructure spin-off, Kyndryl, the facility underwent an intensive eight-month upgrade. According to GreenSquare, the transformed asset is specifically engineered to handle high-density artificial intelligence workloads, featuring modern liquid-to-chip cooling systems designed for optimal performance, energy efficiency, and long-term reliability.
Massive AI Deployment and Future Expansion
As the anchor tenant, Sharon AI is set to deploy approximately 8,200 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs at the Western Sydney campus.
Looking ahead, planning for a substantial 80MW second stage is already underway. This next phase is receiving direct backing from the New South Wales state government’s Investment Delivery Authority, which is collaborating with developers to streamline and accelerate the regulatory approval process.
“By rethinking the building’s configuration, introducing prefabricated systems design, and using the latest technology to reduce carbon, we’ve created a facility that can support some of today’s most demanding compute requirements while using resources far more efficiently,” said GreenSquare Chief Technology Officer Joshua Martens.
