The Swiss intermodal operator Hupac is relaunching its service between Busto Arsizio (Milan area) and La Llagosta (outside of Barcelona). Hupac also hints at an expansion of its activities in Spain soon.
The intermodal service will return on 9 November. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, trains will depart from Busto Arsizio in the direction of Barcelona. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, trains will run in the opposite direction.

The reintroduction of the service comes shortly after the grand opening of Hupac’s upgraded La Llagosta terminal on 19 October. It received €80 million worth of investments. As a result, it features gantry cranes, OCR gates and advanced IT systems to support rail-road intermodal traffic, Hupac said last year.
Moreover, it will have four 700-metre dual-gauge loading tracks to facilitate operations on both the Iberian gauge and standard gauge networks. Hupac expects the terminal to play a role as a regional hub within the Barcelona metropolitan area.
Meanwhile, Hupac is also hinting at a further expansion of its activities in Spain. Head of Hupac’s Shuttle Net South-West Europe department, Antonello Vicini, commented on LinkedIn that the Busto Arsizio–La Llagosta route will be further strengthened by new connections to nearby Tarragona, Madrid and Seville. Other destinations will follow “soon”.
