The Silent 4-Year-Old Qantas Airbus A380 Decision That Predicted The Fleet’s Early 2028 Retirement

In 2022, Qantas took the decision to start reactivating its stored fleet of Airbus A380 Superjumbos. It eventually reactivated 10 of its former fleet of 12 aircraft, with the last aircraft returning to service in late 2025. But now it has announced it will bring forward their retirement from the previously announced early 2030s to start phasing them out in 2028. This appears to be driven by confidence that its replacement A350-1000ULRs will start arriving in 2027 and by higher fuel prices in 2026.
