EU freight rail goes against its target: Four years of decrease, while road gains ground

Poland’s rail freight market does not lack scale. It lacks a stronger link with the road freight flows that already move across the country and between Poland and Western Europe.

A new European freight report shows road transport dominating inland freight, while the combined share of rail and waterways has fallen by 4.1 percentage points over the past decade.

The global rail supply market is forecast to grow by 3.2% annually to EUR 266.8 billion by 2029–2031. At the same time, EU rail suppliers can access only 56% of the global market, down from 59% in the previous study.
