NSW and WA last week joined all but Tasmania and the Northern Territory – which have had ministerial changes – in signing up to a new five-year funding deal with strict rules around spending and reporting.
The new Dreamliners, replacing older 787-9s on the route, increase total seats to 303, with economy seats up from 262 to 271 and business up from 26 to 32. All have in-seat charging, new entertainment systems, and access to high-speed onboard wi-fi.
Virgin expects to fly nearly 500,000 seats per week across its domestic and short-haul international networks in the December-January holiday period, or up to 3,000 weekly flights.
