Greater Anglia has launched an improved live route map to give customers clearer information about train services, possible alternative routes and station facilities, particularly during disruption.
The map has been redesigned following feedback from customers and colleagues gathered over the course of a year.
It shows live train information, station details, accessibility information and possible alternative routes during disruption, helping customers to plan ahead and make more informed decisions while travelling.
The updated map includes:
- clearer interchanges with other services, including the Elizabeth line and London Underground
- improved geographic accuracy, making it easier for customers to understand where stations and routes sit in relation to one another
- clearer operator logos to help customers identify affected routes and other services that may provide alternative journey options during disruption
- improved symbols for airports and stations with a limited service
- clearer station names
- a simpler colour scheme, with black route lines and a light green background
- seaside destinations shown with yellow sand and blue sea
The map key has also been improved, giving customers the option to display certain symbols, including step-free access, when they need them.
The redesigned map is also more compatible with mobile devices when accessed through the Greater Anglia app, giving customers easier access to live train information, tickets and travel updates while they are on the move.
The Greater Anglia app is available from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Kerry Rowley, Greater Anglia’s Senior Service Quality Customer Experience Manager, said:
“Customers told us they wanted the live map to be clearer and easier to use, so we have redesigned it around their feedback.
“The new version makes it simpler to see what is happening on the network, check station information and understand possible alternative routes during disruption.
“We want the map to give customers more confidence when they travel, especially when services are disrupted and clear, timely information really matters.”
The original version of the map was launched in June 2023 to give customers clearer information about disruption and viable alternative travel options.
It went on to win the Digital Technology Idea of the Year Award at ideaUK’s conference in December 2024.
The latest improvements are part of Greater Anglia’s ongoing work to use customer feedback and digital technology to make journeys easier and information clearer, particularly when services are disrupted.
They also reflect the wider approach now being taken across the railway in Anglia, where c2c, Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia are working more closely together under one unified leadership team as part of Anglia’s journey towards Great British Railways. This closer working is designed to support better coordination across infrastructure, train services and customer delivery, including clearer information for customers during disruption.
