Specialist security providers, Land Sheriffs, are supporting Passmores Academy in Harlow, Essex, with CV development and careers guidance to help bridge the gap between education and employment.
As part of a ‘Mock Interview Day’ for Year 11 students, Land Sheriffs Managing Director, James Coyle, and HR Advisor Karen Gladish, interviewed ten Year 11 students at Passmores Academy, reviewing their CVs and providing constructive feedback on interview skills.
The session formed part of a wider effort to help young people build confidence as they prepare for life beyond school, offering practical, real-world advice from industry professionals.
“It was a really rewarding day, for us and hopefully for the students too. Everyone was engaged and open to feedback, and it’s clear to see the next generation are thinking seriously about their next steps after school,” said James.
The session also enabled students to ask questions, with Land Sheriffs providing guidance on topics like apprenticeships, further education routes and general interview techniques.
A pupil wrote to Land Sheriffs following the session, thanking them for the opportunity to experience what a real interview might be like, stating that they now feel more confident about preparing for real life situations.
“It’s important that young people are given the opportunity to understand what the workplace is like. Sessions like this help bridge that gap between education and employment. It’s about giving students practical knowledge that can genuinely make a difference,” James addes.
Following the success of the visit, Passmores Academy has invited Land Sheriffs to return to support their Year 7 and Year 8 careers day, further expanding the programme’s reach across different year groups.
James has also volunteered to take part in the school’s ongoing mentoring programme, providing regular support to Year 10 and Year 11 students as they prepare for further education and employment.
Plus, as a leading provider of security services to the rail industry, Land Sheriffs works closely with Passmores Academy through their Rail Safe Friendly programme, which educates students on the dangers of the railway and promotes safer behaviour around rail infrastructure.
“Passmores Academy is one of 10 schools we partner with through the Rail Safe Friendly initiative. So far, over 1,000 students at the school have completed e-learning courses as part of the programme, which is something we’re incredibly proud of. We value our ongoing partnership and remain committed to delivering meaningful education that helps keep young people safe,” James said.
