Logport I, managed by duisport and located in Duisburg-Rheinhausen, is one of the key logistics hubs in Germany and Europe. From next year, however, the site will also welcome a rail production centre used by Siemens.
Construction of the new building, which will be led by GOLDBECK, was just announced by duisport. The facility should be ready by the end of this year, with Siemens entering it at the beginning of 2027. “The investment volume is more than 25 million euros”, duisport pointed out.
The new production hall will feature five crane systems and two tracks of 223 metres. There will also be two maintenance pits and the hub will be directly connected to the railway network. It will be Siemens’ third manufacturing site in the Ruhr region after the already existing ones in Neuss and Kerfeld, all in a 40-kilometer radius.
Logport I
The Port of Duisburg took charge of the former Krupp steelworks in Duisburg-Rheinhausen in 1998 and turned it into a logistics centre. It extends for 265 hectares. The hub is already being used by many logistics giants. Siemens will in fact join companies such as Kühne+Nagel, Yusen Logistics and DHL, albeit with different operations (manufacturing rather than logistics).
