S Jones Containers has added an entry-level unit to its containerised battery storage range, targeting applications assessed as low risk under DSEAR (the UK’s Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002). The Green Battery Store is designed to house batteries classed as ‘green’ while providing environmental protection and basic electrical safety. The product reflects growing demand for compliant storage as battery volumes increase across industrial and logistics sites.
The Walsall-based company said the unit forms part of a tiered portfolio aligned to differing hazard profiles. The Green Battery Store is intended for facilities with existing safety infrastructure or minimal fire and explosion risk. It offers a simpler specification than higher-rated units, while maintaining core protective measures required for regulated storage environments.
Specification aligned to lower-risk use
Available in sizes ranging from 8ft 6in to 40ft, the container features aluminium louvre ventilation, fire-resistant internal linings, and an HVAC system. An anti-vandal, multi-locking personnel door is also fitted. These features are intended to provide controlled ventilation and physical security without the active fire suppression or explosion mitigation systems used in higher-tier units.

S Jones said the unit is suited to sites storing smaller battery volumes or operating within robust safety frameworks. Selection depends on DSEAR assessment outcomes, insurer requirements and local fire authority guidance. Battery chemistry, proximity to other assets and third-party risk tolerance are also cited as determining factors when specifying storage infrastructure.
Tiered approach to hazard management
The Green Battery Store meets or exceeds the company’s Bronze, Silver, and Gold specifications. Bronze combines passive fire-retardant protection with environmental controls, explosion venting and thermal management for minor thermal events. Silver adds 60-minute fire-rated compartmentalisation, automated detection and sprinkler integration to support higher-risk operational environments.
Gold units are designed for the most demanding scenarios, including destructive lithium-ion testing and ultra-high-density storage. These incorporate independent gas detection, temperature monitoring and automated ventilation response, alongside sealed access systems intended to reduce exposure to potentially toxic gases released during testing processes.

Market demand and container expertise
“Over the last few years, we’ve established our reputation for containerised battery storage and testing units,” said Andrew Nicholls, Head of Conversions. “Our new tiered approach to the range is an important development – making it even easier for our customers to choose the solution that best meets their specific project needs, including budget requirements. The new Green Battery Store provides an affordable solution that still puts safety first for peace of mind.”
S Jones Containers is a fourth-generation family business with more than forty years in the container sector. It supplies, hires and converts units for industrial use. Operating from Walsall in the West Midlands, they are at the heart of England’s so-called “Logistics Golden Triangle”. They have a further eight depots across England, Scotland and Wales. The company has developed containerised battery storage systems for over a decade, positioning the new product as a professional implementation of proven technology.
