After much discussion and delay, a group of European countries announced in 2023 that they would be donating some of their retiring F-16 Block 15/20s to Ukraine. But this was no simple feat. Ukrainian pilots and many maintainers had to be retrained to operate and maintain the Western jets. Finally, it seems the first of the jets will soon be delivered. The F-16s have an excellent record, but now they are getting old. It remains to be seen how they will perform in Ukraine.
