Air Canada is now taking the next step in its process of long-haul fleet modernization with a firm order for eight Airbus A350-1000 jets, alongside purchase options for eight additional airframes. First deliveries of the type are expected to start in the second half of 2040. The Airbus A350-1000’s mix of range, payload, and lower overall unit costs is what makes this a potential inflection point for the carrier, as it can profitably open longer, thinner routes, add seasonal reach, and strengthen cargo economics without the fuel and maintenance penalties of older widebody jets.
