The EC-135 training helicopter conducted a “series of passes and manoeuvres” near the 45-metre digital aerodrome service (DAS) mast at WSI on Thursday in order to help calibrate and validate the camera feeds, said Airservices.
The trial, which initially included 38 routes between Australian/New Zealand and Indonesian/Singaporean airspace, will be extended to include the national air navigation service providers of Papua New Guinea and Fiji, as well as three additional airlines.
The three-year agreement would give ATCs an 11.2 per cent pay rise as well as “significant improvements” to current conditions including allowances, and will be sent to staff for a ballot between 28 June and 3 July.
A Piper PA-32R Cherokee Lance aircraft, carrying three people, crashed and caught fire on take-off at the airport on Saturday, October 11. All three people on board were fatally injured.
