V/Line is closed for the day!

Due to Catastrophic Fire Danger ratings forecast for the North Central, Northern Country, South West and Wimmera districts on Friday 9 January, all V/Line train and coach services scheduled to operate through those fire districts will be cancelled.

Please avoid all unnecessary travel during this time. If you must travel, check Fire Danger Ratings, road conditions on VicTraffic, and stay informed via local radio or the VicEmergency app. Keep your phone charged and carry water.

All train services scheduled for the Albury, Ararat, Bendigo, Echuca, Maryborough, Seymour, Shepparton, Swan Hill and Warrnambool train lines will be cancelled, with no coach replacement services. No scheduled coach or replacement coach services will operate in a fire district while a Catastrophic fire danger rating is in place for that district.

Train Impacts

Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough

Ballarat Line: Train services will continue to operate between Southern Cross and Ballarat in accordance with the Extreme Heat timetable. Download full extreme heat timetable PDF

Maryborough Line: Train services are suspended between Maryborough and Ballarat.

Ararat Line: Train services are suspended between Ararat and Wendouree.

Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill

Bendigo Line: Train services are suspended. 

A limited number of replacement coaches will run between Southern Cross and Kyneton (not stopping at Footscray and Watergardens).

  • To city – coaches will depart Kyneton at 5am and then run every 30 minutes from 6am to 9am. Services will then run every hour from 9.06am to 11.06pm with the last service departing at 11.40pm.
  • From city – coaches will depart Southern Cross at 6.25am and run every hour until 3pm. From 3pm to 6.25pm, coaches will run every 30 minutes, then every hour from 6.25pm until midnight.

Echuca Line: Train services are suspended.

Swan Hill Line: Train services are suspended.

Geelong and Warrnambool

Geelong Line: Train services will continue to operate between Southern Cross and Waurn Ponds in accordance with the Extreme Heat timetable. Download full extreme heat timetable PDF

Warrnambool Line: Train services are suspended between Warrnambool and Waurn Ponds.

Traralgon and Bairnsdale

Traralgon Line: Train services will continue to operate between East Pakenham and Traralgon in accordance with planned works in the metropolitan area.

Bairnsdale Line: Train services will continue to operate between East Pakenham and Bairnsdale in accordance to the planned works temporary timetable.

Seymour, Shepparton and Albury

Seymour Line: Train services are suspended.

A limited number of replacement buses will run between Craigieburn and Donnybrook. Services from Donnybrook to Craigieburn will run every hour from 5.45am to 11.45pm. Services from Craigieburn to Donnybrook will run every hour from 6.40am to 11.40pm.

Passengers can travel on a Metro train between Craigieburn and Southern Cross.

Shepparton Line: Train services are suspended.

Albury Line: Train services are suspended.

Coach Service Impacts

No scheduled coach or replacement coach services will operate in a fire district while a Catastrophic fire danger rating is in place for that district.

Scheduled coach services that operate completely in other fire districts not declared catastrophic will continue to operate. This includes services connecting to stations on closed train lines, however there will not be a connecting train or replacement coach service available to continue your journey.

Other scheduled coach services may also be cancelled or terminated short due to operational requirements.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Passengers are advised to check the V/Line website for the latest travel information. Service changes will also be communicated via the V/Line app, social media and announcements.
  • Due to the forecast hot temperatures across the rest of Victoria on Friday, 9 January, extreme heat timetables will be in place for the Ballarat and Geelong lines.
  • Coaches are replacing trains between Southern Cross and East Pakenham on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale lines until the last services on Sunday, 11 January due to maintenance works on the metropolitan network.

General Information

  • There is limited space for bikes on V/Line trains and coach replacement services
  • No pets or hot food/liquids allowed on replacement coaches. Cold packaged foods can be consumed on V/Line coach services. All drink containers must have a secure, screw-top, fastening or spill-proof lid.
  • Passengers require a valid myki or V/Line ticket to travel on all V/Line replacement coach services. Please touch on and touch off your myki to ensure you pay the correct fare.
  • In Melbourne, coaches will arrive and depart from:
    • The Southern Cross Station coach terminal located on Spencer Street, opposite Little Bourke Street

    Warrnambool Trains could have been continued.
    There were no trains to Waurn Ponds at all.

    Swan Hill service could have been run between Bendigo and Swan Hill I can’t think of a reason why they could not be run. Echuca could have also been run as no fires on that line either.

    A fuel point at Bendigo is available.

    1. I think part of it was a gross over reaction……

      As I understand certain lines and services need to shut down due the fact it was in the fire zones!

      As thank to scaremongering Media for causing people to panic….

      CFA advice should followed on case to case basis with BOM as their long term forcast for temp do not include when the weather speeds up or slows down!
