Aspect ratio in aviation refers to the comparative measurement of a wing’s length (span) to its width (chord). Mathematically speaking, it’s expressed as the square of the wing’s span divided by the wing area. A higher aspect ratio, characterized by long, narrow wings, usually denotes gliders or other high-performance aircraft. Conversely, a low aspect ratio, with shorter, broader wings, is often seen in fighter jets and short-haul airliners, according to Aero Toolbox.
