The win came down to Red Bull’s quick pit stop under safety car, a move McLaren’s Andrea Stella called a mistake that cost Piastri the race, while Red Bull’s Hannah Schmitz defended it as correct.
It narrowed Lando Norris’s championship lead to 12 points heading into the Abu Dhabi finale, where Verstappen can clinch the title with a win if Norris finishes fourth or lower.
