William Young, a United States (US) District Court Judge at the District Court for the District of Massachusetts, opened his ruling on the JetBlue and Spirit Airlines merger by saying that it was tough to predict the future of the airline industry. The judge noted that as a fast-moving industry, with moveable assets and its cyclical nature, aviation’s response to “changes in economic conditions are almost impossible to predict.” Still, the US federal antitrust law aims to preserve a competitive market while attempting to predict the future.

There are 187 aircraft in the mainline fleet with another 100-plus additional jets with regional subsidiary Air India Express. The mainline fleet has grown significantly since our last fleet video on Air India, largely thanks to the acquisition of Vistara and the absorption of its fleet into Air India’s operations.
