It has been nearly five years since American Airlines retired the last of its McDonell Douglas MD-80 fleet. The aircraft, which began service for the airline in the early 80s, received a special sendoff on September 4, 2019, when it operated its final revenue flight. This marked the end of an iconic era for American Airlines; indeed, some passengers onboard the last flight remember it to this day.
