Delta Air Lines’ SkyMiles was established in 1981 as the Delta Air Lines Frequent Flyer Program, although its name later changed to the catchier SkyMiles in 1995. Today, SkyMiles has gone on to become one of the world’s largest airline loyalty programs today. There are four different tiers within SkyMiles, and members progress from one tier to the next by amassing a certain number of Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs).
