One key difference between a great power like Britain and a superpower like the United States is the depth of capabilities. While the RAF has several capabilities, there are certain limitations; for example, it can only launch nukes from submarines. The United States, on the other hand, has just about everything. This requires the US Air Force to maintain a selection of special mission aircraft few other air forces possess.
