Nancy Pelosi, the first woman to serve as House Speaker, announced Thursday that she will not seek re-election after nearly four decades representing San Francisco, planning to complete her current term ending in 2027.
In a video message, she highlighted her achievements, including securing billions in federal funding for her district’s healthcare, transportation, housing, and environmental projects, as well as national efforts on HIV/AIDS and the Affordable Care Act.
Democrats including Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Hakeem Jeffries praised her transformative leadership, while Republicans like Donald Trump criticised her tenure, amid some bipartisan tributes.
