On 13 April 2024, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran attacked Israel directly for the first time. While the two countries have been enemies fighting proxy wars for a long time, this was the first direct attack on Israel by Iran. The attack had the side effect of causing extensive disruptions in commercial aviation in the region. On 19 April, the Israelis struck back and destroyed rare and valuable S-300 30N6E radar – at least that's what satellites show and the US claims. The Iranians responded by saying nothing was hit.
