Trump Sanctions Rosneft and Lukoil, Cancels Putin Summit

President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on Russia’s largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, to pressure Moscow into an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, while canceling a planned summit with Vladimir Putin in Budapest.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the measures target billions in revenue funding the war, amid reports of nearly 8,000 soldiers killed in a recent week.

Trump hosted NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to discuss progress and dismissed reports of lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s long-range missile use as fake news.
