Australia could have built 10 of these across the country — and then spent A$240 billion for 10 new decentralised cities (to ease the housing crisis), all linked by high speed rail — for less than the cost of the AUKUS subs.

And still have enough change left over to bring in free dental cover under Medicare.

How is it Australia consistently gets its priorities wrong and its spending into areas that do not provide any real benefit for Australians?

This also raises the question about the cost of transport projects in Australia and specifically in Victoria. Why are they so expensive when other countries can deliver these far more effectively and for a much cheaper price?
