Brisbane Lions’ Oscar McInerney Retires After 2025 Premiership Triumph

Oscar McInerney, the 31-year-old ruckman who played 165 games for the Brisbane Lions, announced his retirement immediately after the team’s 35-point Grand Final win over Geelong, securing back-to-back AFL premierships.

Despite overcoming a dislocated shoulder that kept him out of the 2024 flag and ongoing back issues this season, he delivered 28 hitouts and a goal in his final match.

The club and fans hailed his humility, team-first mentality, and status as a beloved cult hero in the sport.
