Two Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Sikorsky SH-60K Seahawk helicopters crashed during a nighttime training mission, with one dead and seven missing. Initial reports are that the JMSDF was able to retrieve both flight data recorders, one servicemember, and pieces of both Seahawks about 600 kilometers (373 miles) south of Tokyo near Torishima in the remote Izu island group, off the southern coast of central Japan.
