DB Cargo will lease around 6,000 wagons from GATX Rail Europe (GRE). “Under the terms of the agreement, GRE will acquire the railcars and initially lease them back to DB Cargo for several years”, GATX said.
The deal is expected to be finalised before the end of the year and it includes a wide range of wagon types, according to GATX. This is quite a step up for the European branch of the American group. The addition of 6,000 new units equals a 20% increase in the company’s fleet, from 30,500 to 36,500.
“This agreement marks a significant milestone in the ongoing relationship between GRE and DB Cargo”, GATX added. This is in fact not the first time that DB Cargo cooperates with GATX. Both companies, for example, are part of the DAC4EU consortium for the testing and approval of the Digital Automatic Coupling.
