Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine suffered another setback as it lost a valuable Tupolev Tu-22M (NATO reporting name, Backfire). Videos emerged on social media of the stricken aircraft on fire and in an uncontrolled spin plummeting to the ground. Later pictures emerged of its burnt-out wreck on the ground. Russia has lost around 100 (perhaps more) fixed-wing aircraft since the beginning of the war and is yet to establish any form of air superiority over unoccupied Ukraine.
