Car carrying two teenagers rolls after colliding with the Ghan train in SA

The Ghan train and a car with two teenagers inside collided, causing the car to roll in South Australia yesterday.

Emergency services were called to a level crossing on Park Road near the Augusta Highway in Baroota about 3.15pm.

The Ghan train was travelling north to Darwin from Adelaide when the Mazda 3 and train crashed.

“The driver and passenger in the Mazda, both 17-year-old boys from Port Augusta, sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital,” South Australia Police said in a statement.

“The train came to a stop a short distance away; thankfully the drivers and passengers were not injured.”

Police said the Ghan was able to continue on its journey after it swapped to another locomotive.
