United Airlines is one of the most prominent and recognizable airlines in the world. The Chicago, Illinois-based airline was founded in the late 1920s after several popular airlines merged. This makes United the oldest domestic commercial airline in the United States. Since then, the airline has experienced considerable growth, ranking it among the world’s largest airlines. In 2024, United Airlines was the world’s top airline in available seat miles (ASM), with over 311 billion ASMs.
