The Lockheed L-1011 TriStar and McDonnell Douglas DC-10 were two of the leading trijet aircraft of their era built with a similar size, range and capacity. However, while the DC-10 did quite well commercially with almost 450 sales, the L-1011 only managed just over half of that figure and ended up losing manufacturer Lockheed billions of dollars due to poor sales.
