German rail equipment producer Vollert files for insolvency

Vollert, a German rail tech company, has filed for insolvency. It intends to continue working as normal for the time being. The company’s problems reflect broader economic setbacks.
The insolvency will not have an immediate impact on business operations at Vollert, the company explains. It will continue working for the foreseeable future.

Vollert develops stationary shunting systems, shunting robots, road-rail robots and heavy-duty transfer wagons and travelling platforms. However, rail is a minor business segment for the 100-year old family-owned company.

Besides rail, it works in the intralogistics processes and precast cement sectors. It is especially the latter sector that has seen a significant downturn in recent times. American tariffs, a struggling Chinese economy and problems in Brazil have contributed to that. When it comes to rail, the company is “satisfied”, with some good contracts currently running.

“I informed the workforce about the situation immediately after filing for insolvency. It is extremely regrettable that it had to come to this, especially since we were able to acquire two new major projects just a few weeks ago”, managing partner Hans-Jörg Vollert stated.

Recently, intermodal platform developer Helrom also filed for insolvency.
