We need more freight on rail to reduce transport costs. Freight forwarders should be asking for rates from rail companies and Port Rail Shuttles will reduce costs for shippers. There is a great opportunity to use rail to and from the Port of Melbourne with Dandenong and Somerton intermodal terminals coming online first but taken years to get developed.

The Port of Melbourne handled a national record of 3.4 million containers last year, an increase of 9.3 per cent in just 12 months. Rail is now the only viable solution to addressing this increased demand but the Government refuses to acknowledge there is a problem.
