While today, almost all fighter aircraft were designed for all-weather operations during the earlier years of air-to-air warfare, this was not the case as most fighters were only designed for daytime operations. Aircraft meant to fly only during good weather or during the daytime are far simpler to build, requiring fewer instruments and redundancy systems.
