On July 12, India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released its preliminary report on the Air India Flight 171 crash last month. In the report, it stated that the engine’s fuel switches were cut off seconds after takeoff, starving the engines of fuel and ultimately dooming the aircraft to lose altitude and crash. Notably, while the report mentioned an exchange of dialogue on the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) between the two pilots about the fuel switches, it did not clarify which pilot said what.
