The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is one of the most prominent widebody airliners currently in production. The aircraft was first announced in the early 2000s. Boeing began designing this aircraft to make it as efficient as possible, making it one of the most cost-effective widebody aircraft at the time of its announcement. Overall, Boeing targeted 20% less fuel burn compared to other existing widebody aircraft like the Boeing 767. To achieve this, they chose the General Electric GEnx or Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 high-bypass turbofan engines to power the aircraft, and the company also designed the airframe primarily from composite materials.
