Istanbul Airport (IST) is increasingly becoming one of the largest and most important airports in Europe. As a principal base for Turkish flag carrier Turkish Airlines, the airport is an increasingly crucial global hub for connecting passengers. Today, the airport is not only served by numerous European carriers, but it is also served extensively by Russian airlines, making it one of the last few major air bridges between Russia and the West.
