The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine, multi-role fighter aircraft designed and developed by General Dynamics in the early 1970s. Developed for the United States Air Force (USAF), the prototype aircraft (YF-16) performed its first planned flight in February 1974. Its first production version entered service in August 1978.
