Since the retirement of the Concorde over two decades ago, the world has been without supersonic passenger air transportation. Even though Concorde was profitable (contrary to popular opinion), only two airlines were ever interested in the jet, and both quickly retired the model. However, there is a supersonic passenger jet in development by Boom Supersonic, one which could soon enter service with multiple different United States-based carriers. Nonetheless, there are significant barriers that the Boom-built Overture aircraft will have to overcome before it enters widespread service.
